If you have been exposed to asbestos in any form throughout your lifetime in Louisiana, you are at a significantly higher risk of contracting mesothelioma. While there are other reasons why you may have gotten this cancer, asbestos exposure is the primary reason that many victims of mesothelioma have fallen prey to the cancerous disease.

This form of cancer is found in the tissue lining that is responsible for covering vital organs in your body.  Your treatment options may vary depending on the severity of your condition, your medical history, and your requirements. According to the National Cancer Institute, some of the ways that your health care provider may attempt to treat your mesothelioma include the following:

  • Internal or external radiation therapy that directs radiation towards cancerous cells in an attempt to kill them. With the use of radiation, you may experience a reduction in your level of pain.
  • Targeted therapy using methods such as Kinase inhibitors and monoclonal antibody therapy to rid your body of specific cancer cells. While it is less evasive than other treatment options, it does require consistent use of prescribed drugs that are used in facilitating the therapy.
  • Chemotherapy is an injection that prevents cancer cells from splitting and spreading by releasing powerful drugs into your bloodstream.
  • Surgery may be another option you could consider, but the type of surgery you undergo will vary drastically depending on the stage of your cancer and the condition of your body.
