Why should you bring a family member with you to the doctor?

When you have an important doctor’s visit to attend in Louisiana, one of the first things you may consider doing is bringing a family member with you for moral support and comfort. However, are there more benefits to this decision than those? If you go about the appointment in the right way and disclose your expectations to your family member ahead of time, having his or her accompaniment can be highly beneficial.

One of the most important things you can do to make sure the visit is still productive and focused is to speak with your family member ahead of the actual appointment. Let them know why you would like the company. Suggest scenarios in which their intervention would be appropriate and appreciated. As such, you can prevent the awkward circumstance where your family member takes too bold of an approach and essentially distracts from the reason you are at the doctor at all.

According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, some of the most valuable reasons for asking a family member to come with you is to have someone to rehearse with. Act like your family member is your doctor and practice asking him or her important questions on the way to your appointment. Ask them for advice about areas of concern to bring up. Following your appointment, you can rely on your family member to help you remember key points about your visit that should be documented for future reference.
